Smaller Roles

The Bar Girls

Though technically in several numbers (Dreamland, Movie in my Mind, the Wedding) there are three girls who each receive a solo line during the The Heat is On in Saigon.

Mimi: See my bikini is just the right size.
Yvette: Don't you just love how it rides up my thighs?
Look from behind, it'll knock out your eyes.
Yvonne: I'll show you my special trophy of war.
Mimi: For a marine I'll show more.

The vocal score lists Yvette's line as being divided with Yvonne, and a girl named Dominique singing Yvonne's line, but both recordings of the number have the lines sung as I wrote. The Original London Cast has Yvonne with a very heavy accent, but unless you're Asian, please don't.

Also, be comfortable dancing extremely sexually.

You can see in this grainy footage the part that they do.

Better quality video here, but lower quality performers.

The Two Guards

These are, I would argue, the two most significant roles outside of any of the leads in the show, because they have somewhat significant parts of two numbers. They appear during The Morning of the Dragon to take the Engineer to Thuy. They show back up again during Back in Town to deliver an angry speech to Kim.

Their first appearance.

Their second appearance.

The Owner

This is a nightclub owner that Kim and the Engineer end up working for when they go to Bangkok. He appears to yell at the Engineer briefly in the middle of What a Waste. He appears again towards the end of the number. He sings for the first 20 seconds of "Chris is Here," for 12 bars. He then accuses John of being gay and then leaves for the rest of the show.

Captain Shultz

The Fall of Saigon sequence takes place as the American embassy is devolving into chaos. The score refers to the corporal who opens the number and issues Kim's paper to Chris as Captain Shultz.

Various Parts

The Fall of Saigon contains a bunch of soldiers all squabbling. They're listed as Marine Captain, Another marine, and a marine. I've seen them assigned names sometimes. There are also various Vietnamese people who say one line each.

Listen to Kim's Nightmare to get an idea of what's going on here.
